What this template's algorithm handles for you
What this template builds for you
Wine has to lie horizontal (keeps the cork moist) and store-bought racks rarely fit your actual space. The template takes a bottle count (6–24) and a column / row layout, then auto-computes the lattice cells from standard bottle diameter (7–8 cm).
Structure options: plain wood lattice (traditional), cross lattice (Nordic), diamond lattice (sculptural). Standalone (small) or wall-recessed (large 24+ bottles). Material: oak (matches the wine smell) or cypress (resists humidity).
A 12-bottle commercial rack runs $25–60; build it yourself for $10–20 in material. More importantly: build one as a gift for a wine-lover friend and every time they uncork they'll think of you. One of the highest-ROI gift projects in small woodworking.
Who this template suits
✓ Recommended for
- · Anyone storing 6+ bottles
- · Gift projects for wine-lover friends
- · Restaurant / B&B fittings
× Not for
- · Storing more than 30 bottles (build a full wall-recessed cabinet)
- · Champagne bottles (9 cm diameter — standard lattice won't hold them)
- · Long-term collectors (a wood rack isn't a temperature-controlled cellar)

When you'd build one
20 bottles to store — build a recessed rack and friends see your collection at a glance.
Build a 6-bottle rack for a wine-lover friend — more meaningful than just giving wine.
New restaurant wine cabinet — material cost beats made-to-order by miles.
Each guest room gets a 6-bottle rack in the corner — guests can bring their own wine, and the detail says a lot.

FAQ
Horizontal or vertical?+
Wine: horizontal (keeps the cork moist). Sparkling: vertical OK (CO2 pressure prevents drying). Template defaults to horizontal.
What wood?+
Oak (pairs with wine aromatics), cypress (resists humidity), cherry (color matches red wine). Pine absorbs humidity — not recommended.
Weight calc for wall-mounted?+
A bottle is 1.5 kg; 12 bottles = 18 kg. Use 8 mm+ expansion bolts into concrete walls for that load.
Lattice spacing in cm?+
Standard wine bottle is 7–7.5 cm diameter, so clear opening 8–8.5 cm (0.5–1 cm of play). Champagne bottle is 9 cm, opening 10 cm. The template auto-computes from your input diameter.
Finish?+
Wax or oil (not PU). PU seals well but the rack contacts humidity and the film can lift. A natural beeswax coat once a year is plenty and is kind to the wood.
