Display cabinets are the furniture serious collectors should build themselves — retail display cabinets are either too large for the wall or have wrong-height shelves for the actual collection.
The template splits the cabinet into top / middle / bottom zones, each set to glass doors, open shelves, drawers or wood doors: you type the top and bottom zone heights, the middle takes what's left (or lock the total height and the remainder becomes the legs). Three door materials — 5 mm tempered glass, frame-and-panel, veneered slab — and glass doors take a wood mullion grid: cross 4-pane, 3 vertical, Colonial 6-pane, Art Deco geometric. Four top trims (flat band, stepped, dentil, gallery rail), 8 leg styles or flat on the floor, and three back-panel methods (pinned, rebated, none).
Every glass pane's order size is written straight into the notes (including the part seated in the frame groove) — hand it to the glass shop for a quote. Wood cut list, three-view drawings, part drawings and joinery come out in one go. Custom-built 80 × 40 × 160 cm glass display cabinets retail for $250–800; DIY wood + glass runs $100–200 — and every shelf height, door grid and trim is dimensioned around your collection.

FAQ
Where do I get the glass?+
Order from a local glass shop. The notes list every pane size (including the part seated in the groove) and thickness (5 mm tempered is the standard). Around $25–60 per pane.
Are the mullions true divided panes?+
The template draws the grid in the same plane as the glass. Easiest build is one pane plus an applied wood grille on the outside — it reads the same. True divided lites (one pane per opening) are far more work and only worth it for antique reproductions.
Pinned or rebated back?+
Pinned 3 mm plywood over the back is fastest and the cabinetmaker's default. A rebated 9 mm back sits in a groove — more work, cleaner from behind, the traditional way. No back only suits open display against a wall.
Inset or overlay doors?+
Inset (door flush with the carcase) looks the most refined but every gap must be dead-on; full overlay is the most forgiving; half overlay is for two doors sharing one side panel. All three switch in the template, all on Euro hinges.
Panel thicknesses?+
Sides 18 mm minimum; > 100 cm tall, go 21 mm. Shelves under 40 cm span work at 15 mm; > 50 cm span need 18 mm+. The template warns when panels are too thin for the span.
