What this template's algorithm handles for you
What this template builds for you
Display cabinets are the furniture serious collectors should build themselves — retail display cabinets are either too large for the wall or have wrong-height shelves for the actual collection.
This template takes per-shelf heights (figure shelf 25 cm, book shelf 32 cm, whisky shelf 35 cm), auto-lays out shelf positions. Glass-door dimensions auto-computed (exactly what the glass shop needs to quote you). Optional LED-strip channel routed in (back-lit display). Back panel: solid wood (warm), glass (see-through both sides), or mirrored (extends the perceived space).
Custom-built 60 × 40 × 180 cm glass display cabinets retail for $250–800. DIY material cost (wood + glass + LED) is $100–200. More importantly: your figure spacing, your bottle angles, everything dimensioned by you. When the collection rotates, you can modify rather than replace — that's the value of building it.
Who this template suits
✓ Recommended for
- · Figure / model collectors
- · Whisky / glassware collectors
- · Antique collections
× Not for
- · Need temperature / humidity control (that's electrical, not woodworking)
- · Items > 5 kg each (need thicker shelves or center supports)
- · Don't want LED reflections (LED is the main aesthetic value)

When you'd build one
Collection of 30 figures — custom-sized cabinet with LED per shelf.
Whisky collection — glass doors + LED makes the bottles glow.
Family antiques get dedicated display — glass doors stop dust, lighting elevates the pieces.
Studio displays client work — a wall of display cabinets doubles as photo backdrop.

FAQ
Where do I get the glass?+
Order from a local glass shop. Give them the template's dimensions (+ 2–3 mm allowance) and thickness (5 mm tempered is the standard). Around $25–60 per pane.
How do I wire the LED?+
Buy a 12V LED strip ($10–15 for 5m) + power supply ($6). Slide into the routed channel — no soldering needed.
Mirror back panel?+
Doubles the perceived collection. But mirrors reflect every speck of dust — you'll be cleaning often. Most builders pick solid wood for that reason.
Hinged vs sliding doors?+
Hinged is faster (just open and grab). Sliding saves space but every reach requires moving the door. For glass doors, magnetic catches (no lock hardware) are the simplest.
Panel thicknesses?+
Sides 18 mm minimum; > 100 cm tall, go 21 mm. Shelves under 40 cm span work at 15 mm; > 50 cm span need 18 mm+. Heavier collections push the thicker side.
