What this template's algorithm handles for you
What this template builds for you
Wardrobes are the most space-occupying piece of furniture in a home — and the one most worth custom-building. Custom-built quotes run $2,500–4,500. DIY material cost is $600–900 — plus the skills to build a furniture-grade piece that'll last 30 years.
This template takes your wall opening (width × depth × height) and lays out hanging-rod positions (110 cm for women's clothing, 140 cm for men's; double rod possible), drawer count, top shelving for off-season storage, and optional bottom shoe row. Door style: hinged (cheapest), sliding (won't hit the bed), or no doors (fastest build).
Key dimensions: depth 60 cm minimum (hanging clearance), single-bay width 90–100 cm (rod doesn't sag), total height 5 cm under ceiling (need clearance to wrestle in). The template configures to your dimensions. Saved $2,000+ in build cost, and now you've got the skills for headboards, dressing tables, and storage built-ins.

FAQ
Does wardrobe depth have to be 60 cm?+
For hanging clothes, yes — hanger width is ~45 cm + 15 cm air = 60 cm minimum so doors don't catch. Pure folded-clothes storage works at 45 cm.
Sliding vs hinged doors?+
Sliding saves swing-out space but the hardware costs 3× and needs maintenance. Rule of thumb: bed-to-wardrobe < 70 cm = sliding, > 70 cm = hinged.
Can I install it myself?+
Yes but you need two people — wardrobes are heavy. Assemble flat, then stand up. Don't assemble inside the room and try to lift.
Back panel?+
Strongly recommended. Without one, clothes catch on the wall, dust accumulates. 9 mm plywood back is enough — no need to go thicker.
Hanging-rod spec?+
25 mm steel rod (a few dollars per foot) is the universal standard. Spans > 90 cm want a center support bracket. Aluminum rods aren't notably more durable — save the money.
