What this template's algorithm handles for you
What this template builds for you
The most common mistake on bar stools is not matching the counter height — standard retail is 75 cm but your kitchen island might be 90 cm or 105 cm. Sit down and your knees crash into the counter.
The template auto-suggests stool height from your counter height (counter − 28 cm is the knee-clearance sweet spot). Foot-rail auto-placed (25–30 cm from the floor is the comfort spot). Legs splayed 6–10° (bar stools are top-heavy and tip easily — splay adds tip-resistance). Back style: backless (cleanest), low-back (5 horizontal rails), or full-back (dining-chair height).
Retail bar stools run $80–160 each. DIY material cost is $40–70. The bigger win: your counter is unique, and store-bought stools are always 3–5 cm off. Build four matched stools yourself and the whole bar feels intentional.

FAQ
Will it tip?+
Not at 6° splay or more with correctly placed foot rails. The algorithm warns when splay is too low for the stool height.
Do I need a back?+
Depends on use. Short sits (coffee): backless. Long sits (work-from-stool): full back.
Foot rail on all four sides?+
Not strictly. Front and back two-sided is enough (people use the front rail). Saves material and time.
Seat size?+
35–40 cm diameter circle or 35 × 35 cm square is typical. Smaller wobbles; larger reads heavy. The template suggests from your stool height.
Foot rail height?+
25–30 cm is comfortable for most adults (knees ~90° bent, feet rest naturally). If kids will use it too, drop to 20 cm.
